Dear Dad
It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since you entered the eternal presence of Jesus. Some days it seems like forever that you’ve been gone, and yet we still hear your voice every day as we remember your humor, your godliness and your great love for your family.
I’m not sure whether it’s possible to see earth from heaven, but I think you’d be pleased to see all of us. And how we have grown! When you left us, our immediate family numbered 14, and we have grown to a whopping 26! All of your grandchildren have graduated from college, which I know would make you so proud. The 6 that have married have wonderful spouses who fit into our family as if they’d always been there. And the little ones, your great grandchildren! I know how much you would love seeing them, playing with them, doing Pony Boy and Bumble Bee until they giggle like your children and grandchildren did.
Most importantly, your godly legacy lives on. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth”, III John 3 says, and that is true of your family. You left us a godly example and we have all sought to honor that and follow in your footsteps–the footsteps of Jesus that you followed as well.
Although we miss you every day, we wouldn’t wish you back. The indescribable life you are enjoying in heaven is so much more than earth could ever offer. Whenever our earthly days are complete, we’ll join you there. Until then, we will try to make you proud and walk worthy of God’s blessings.
