It never ceases to amaze me how God will speak to His children on a particular subject, and then turn around and reinforce it with further “information” from His Word. This morning, our pastor spoke about the fact that the ability to believe His Word and promises is, in itself, a gift from Him. When we choose to acccept the gift of faith and trust Him for our salvation, it pleases Jesus and causes Him to draw close to us. He came to do something beyond this world’s understanding, something eternal.
In Sunday School, we then studied about the gift of the Holy Spirit and how His coming was second only to the salvation-work done by the life and death of Jesus Christ in its monumental effect upon human history. Jesus promised, when He returned to heaven, that He would send another Comforter. When the promise was fulfilled, it forever changed the lives of those from that point on who were trusting Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection for their eternal salvation. There was now the abiding indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, the One who would never leave.
The statement that stayed with me from the sermon was “Jesus, I trust You”, and the same idea was reinforced in Sunday School. We trust in Jesus as a gift from Him, and He is pleased. We have the enormous privilege of being indwelled by His Holy Spirit, and His presence gives us the ability to keep trusting Him for every moment of every day. I was reminded of a song that I heard many years ago entitled “You Have Everything in Your Hands”. The words are: “You have everything in Your hands, You have everything under control. Whenever I praise You, I see Who You really are. Whenever I praise You, I see Who You really are. I see You on the cross and I hear You say, ‘It’s finished now.’ I see You as the King of kings, on the throne in Your Father’s kingdom. I see You as the bridegroom just waiting for Your bride.”
“Jesus, I trust You. No one else is worthy of that trust. You are going for so much more than anything we can see or understand. Please give me enough information to cooperate with whatever You’re going for in me.”
