One Christian's Perspective on Trials and Other Aspects of American Life

Power for the Ordinary Days

Yesterday I had what could be deemed a full, and somewhat crazy, day. This isn’t really news, for all of us have them from time to time. I made a total of 10 stops during the course of the day, including an extra trip to the grocery store for things I forgot the first time! I had to have a filling replaced, my second trip to the dentist for repair on previously done work in the past month. My dentist is wonderful, and I attribute the dental repairs needed solely to my aging, deteriorating teeth! Thankfully they can still be fixed rather than just removed! On the way to the dentist, I stopped to do some shopping and when I returned to my car the remote did not work. Rather than set off the alarm in a crowded parking lot, I figured out which store might have batteries to replace what I assumed was a dead one in my remote. The people were very nice and even found the right sized screwdriver to replace the battery. Upon returning to the car, the remote STILL did not work, so I used the key to open the door and set off the alarm anyway. After hitting a couple of buttons, the alarm stopped and I was able to start my car and even get to the dentist on time! When I got home, I made myself some chocolate chip cookies. This seemed like the right thing to do!

Being thankful for days like this might seem strange, but as I returned home for the last time, I was grateful. During the past few years, I’ve had more than my share of days when going up and down the stairs and maybe doing a load of laundry was a major accomplishment. Days full of “normal” life have often been few. I don’t ever want to take those crazy, busy days for granted. It means that I am blessed to get out of bed and be part of the normal flow of day to day life.

“Thank You, Lord, for allowing me to experience Your power in the regular occurrences of life!”
